How to Improve Your Levels of Organization

Being organized is not something that comes naturally to all of us and if you not one of the World’s tidy people, then you will know that being disorganized results in a messy room/home as well as mislaid pieces of information or possessions. Interestingly enough, I checked out an infographic from this campaign called furniture@work which actually suggested that your level of organization correlates with your star sign, so it’s kind of not our fault if we are messy.

Throughout the years I cannot tell you how many travel plans I have messed up, items I have lost and meetings I have missed as a result of my disorganization and if you are like I was then I have some great tips to help you stay on track.

Use Technology

When it comes to keeping track of your daily schedule then why not introduce some technology into proceedings in order to help you be where you need to be, when you need to be there. Think about it this way, it is very rare for most of us that we won’t have on our person a mobile phone or tablet. Using any one of many applications out there can ensure that you don’t miss meetings or events as you will be notified before they take place.

Give Everything a Home

Something that often stands in the way of being organized is that fact that not everything has its own home be it in the office or in your house. In order to turn the corner in terms of your organization, why not spend a day at work, or in the house, and organizing all of your items, place them in closets and drawers ,color code boxes with various items and create a system which you will be able to stick to.

Remind Yourself

Once you have color coded and organized all of your things, it is time to start respecting the work you have done and continue to place things back where they live. A great way to remind yourself to do this is with visual aids, anything as simple as a poster can help, whatever it takes to remind you to put things back. It is more than likely that after you have put in the hard work of giving everything a home, that you will indeed stick to it, at least at first, and then you can use your reminder to keep going.

30 Minutes Early

Setting your watch or the clock on your phone to be 30 minutes early will ensure that you are never late for anything again. This may seem a little crazy but if you are a person who is disorganized with their time, then tricking yourself may be the best way for you to ensure that you are no longer arrive late to meetings or appointments.

These are just some of the ways in which you can be more organized in your life and if you are like I was and live a life of chaos, then I can honestly say that adding some organization to the madness can help in many ways.
